WHMIS Training for Managers and Supervisors

HAMILTON, ON (October 6, 2005) - The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) now has an e-course to help managers and supervisors understand and meet their responsibilities for safe use of chemicals and compliance to Canada’s Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). WHMIS is a comprehensive national system for providing information on the safe management of hazardous chemicals, which is legislated by both the federal, provincial and territorial jurisdictions. It was created in response to the Canadian workers' right to know about the safety and health hazards that may be associated with the materials or chemicals they use at work.

WHMIS for Managers and Supervisors helps familiarize participants with the basics of WHMIS, their duties and responsibilities under WHMIS regulations, WHMIS symbols and classes, supplier and workplace labels, and material safety data sheets (MSDSs). The course offers practical advice on developing effective workplace training programs, and also covers basic health and safety measures that can be taken to protect employees. Ultimately the goal is to create a safer workplace by providing people with the knowledge and tools to enable them to work safely and prevent injuries and illnesses.

In addition to managers and supervisors, this e-course is a valuable tool for human resources and safety professionals with responsibility for training and compliance.

WHMIS for Managers and Supervisors is an e-course delivered over the Internet, making training easily accessible and cost effective. The course, complete with references, quizzes and an exam takes about 60 minutes to complete.

WHMIS for Managers and Supervisors is available in English and French.
