Craig Journeay from Milton, Nova Scotia is just completing a one-year occupational health and safety certificate program at Nova Scotia Community College in Stellarton, Nova Scotia. After extensive work experience in the sawmill industry Craig developed a passion for health and safety and decided to pursue a post-secondary education in the field. As a student he was the occupational health and safety Class Representative on the Student Association at his college.

Craig is particularly interested in the role of ergonomics in reducing workplace musculoskeletal injuries and would like to expand his knowledge of ergonomics and its applications in occupational health and safety. He plans to work as a health and safety professional and earn a CRSP designation.

Robin Van Driel lived in Toronto, Ontario until moving with her husband to Vancouver to further her studies. She completed the first year of a masters program at the School of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Robin’s interest at the moment is in back injury research - particularly spinal compression, and she is currently involved in a back injury study conducted by UBC of British Columbia’s heavy industries.

Prior to entering the masters program, Robin worked in the automotive industry in ergonomics and health and safety. She felt the need to further develop her knowledge and education in industrial hygiene, to improve the health of workers and better understand the complex set of interactions individuals may encounter within their work environments.

Brent Macdonald, married with two boys, has lived his entire life in Saskatoon. He worked for Brewers Distributors Ltd. for 22 years, and served as the co-chair of his workplace health and safety committee, as well as workplace Union Labour Relations representative.

In 2006 Brent left his job to follow his passion for occupational health and safety. Having just completed the OH&S Practitioner Certificate Course at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST), as well as his Business Administration Certificate from the University of Saskatchewan, Brent plans on working in the occupational health and safety field while pursuing the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation. He hopes to be a positive force in showing how leadership and a safety culture mindset are essential for eliminating workplace injuries and illnesses.
